Freedom Park 'Reggaenized' by Ital Sounds System

Ital Sounds System, collaborating with Shimmers Production Services on Sunday May 1st, 2016 held Nigerian workers and fun seekers spellbound for hours with past and present reggae dancehall big tunes at Freedom Park. Though, not the first of reggae gigs to be held at the park, but it remains the very first time a reggae sound system was given the stage at the rebuilt British Colonial prison known as Freedom Park.

Freedom Park is an all – in – one Art and Entertainment arena situated some meters away from St. Nicholas Hospital on one of the major streets in Lagos commercial hub.

Sound System in layman terms, is a musical train system accompanied by growing and established artistes, a disc jockey with stops at interested ‘stations’. Just that the sound system culture for reggae comes with a slight difference in terms of selector, hype-man, artistes ready and willing to burst on the selector’s known and unknown riddim.

Covenant Child and BigYouth
Ardent reggae lovers amongst whom are Uzo, Kush Alabi, Big Youth from Ijebu Ode, ace reggae producer – Chris Okoro, Rebel and a host of others  where all present at freedom park for the very best of undiluted but strictly reggae dancehall tunes.

Reggae MCs bursting the mic on the selector’s riddim were; Benz Man, Ediro, Benny Paladin, ‘Cho Cho’ crooner – Maggy and Ital Sounds artistes – BigMan and BornStar the next big deejay and singjay respectively.

Speaking with BornStar after his stunning performance, he attributed his continuous improvement of his craftsmanship to his steady participation at every of Ital Sounds System ‘station’ especially the Ital Sounds Artiste Workshop where he learnt the importance of Etiquette and the core of Sound System culture which was held within the first quarter of 2016.

ItalSounds Artiste - BornStar live at Freedom Park
BornStar’s single, RECOVER is gradually receiving acclaimed acceptability within and beyond as he was recently featured alongside African China and Emmizah in another yet-to-release Covenant Child single.

It is no surprise that Ital Sounds artistes could wow fun seekers who stayed until the early hours of the Federal Government work-free day to unwind and awaken their consciousness with the finest reggae tunes.

Ital Sounds has always been in the forefront in the promoting and resuscitation of reggae music in Nigeria, as #italsounds would be playing in the 2016 Bob Marley’s tribute concert holding Friday, 13 May 2016 at Gowon Estate in Lagos, Nigeria. Ital Sounds System plays every Tuesday, at the New Afrika Shrine on NERDC road, Agindigbi – Ikeja from 7pm until Jah time and Koga Lounge on Oregun road by Mobil Gas Station also in Ikeja every Wednesday from 7pm until 12midnight.
